Your menu/s on your website will be pre-configured according to which template is being used. There are several different types of menu (mainmenu, othermenu, topmenu, usermenu) – each appearing in a different position on the page. Your DISKMANdotNet trainer will advise you which of these applies to your site. For this example, the most common “mainmenu” is used.
Select the menu you wish to add an item to (most customers will be using the MAIN MENU):
- Across the top of the window, there are a series of menu options (Home, Site, Menu etc). Hover over Menu and click on ‘mainmenu’.

This will take you to the Menu Item Manager, listing all links/items that will appear in your website’s main menu.

- Click the ‘New’ button in the top right hand corner. And select (usually) either Link - Content Item or Link - URL. Then Next.
- ‘Link – Content Item’ if you want to add a menu link to a page within your site.
- "Link - URL" if you are linking to a page/site which is not on your web site (see below for linking to external URL).

Linking to a page within your site
1. After you have selected 'Link - Content Item', you need to 'name' your button, and then select from the scrolling list of all the pages within your site to select the page you want to link to. 2. Then select how you want the link to operarate by selecting from the three options in the section called URL. Usually you would choose Parent window with Browser Navigation.
3. If you want the menu button to be on the top level of your menu, select Top (you can reorder in the last step). 4. If you want the menu button to be under another menu item (like a sub item), then click the apprpriate button name from the list named Parent Item. 5. Click Save. See below for rearranging the order of menu items.
Linking to an external page or site
The process is similar to above with one exception.
1. After you have selected 'Link - URL', you need to 'name' your button, and then type the URL of the external page/site. Note, you MUST put the full URL, with http:// infront of it.
2. This is the exception; usually becuase this link is going to an external page, you would select Open in New Window with Browser Navigation in the section called URL. This pops up a new window so that your site visitor still has your site open in the background.
3. If you want the menu button to be on the top level of your menu, select Top (you can reorder in the last step). 4. If you want the menu button to be under another menu item (like a sub item), then click the apprpriate button name from the list named Parent Item. 5. Click Save.
Rearranging the order of your Menu items
Once you are back at the summary page of all yor menu items, simply click the little blue arrows (up or down) for the menu item you wish to swap the order. Once you click up or down the menu item is rearranged.
Note: Any unused menu links will still appear on your web site if they are “Published”. To unpublish a menu item, make sure you are in the mainmenu section, find the unwanted link, and to the immediate left will either be a small icon of a page with a tick, or a cross. A page with a tick indicates “published” and will appear in your menu. Click on the icon to change it to a cross to “unpublish” it.
